D30 TRUCK Restoration
This truck was imported into the UK in 1939.
This vehicle was of American origin.
It was sold to Britain in cab and chassis form (rare as a right hand drive).
At which it was a ¾ wheelbase tipper, which worked in Cornwall.
It fell into disrepair in the 1950’s and was laid up on a farm until purchased by a friend for restoration in the 1970’s.
Again it fell into disrepair and I purchased the vehicle in the state you can see in the pictures for £500.
I then had to do a lot of research on the international marque and this particular model.
A lot of the interior and glass had been removed and lost along the way.
I then had to source parts from the USA because it is the only known D30 in this country.
Firstly, the cab and bonnet grill etc were removed.
Then the engine was stripped and rebuilt.
The chassis and Trilex wheels were stripped and cleaned and reassembled with new tyres.
The chassis and axles, wheels etc were painted in two pack red and the engine in green.
A lot of the metalwork needed to be reformed and welded and repaired. This was done in-house in our workshop.
The interior was rebuilt, and leather bench seat was renewed.
The cab was painted in burgundy 2k. the whole electrical system was missing so was renewed.
A completely new hardwood flatbed body was constructed from scratch, the ironwork was made and fitted and the whole body was varnished.
The whole job took 12 months to complete and then was sold on to a customer near Heathrow.
